Opening Reception: August 1, 2026 from 2-4pm EST
As a young artist, I am profoundly lucky to have attended 4 artist residencies in France spanning from 2013, when I first studied abroad at La Napoule Art Foundation with UMass Amherst, to January 2026, when I spent 2 weeks in Champagne at Chateau d'Orquevaux.
French countryside landscapes are a main focus in my most recent body of work. I am a firm believer in creating peaceful spaces where there is cultivation for deep contemplation and self reflection. My time at La Tempera, an artist residency in Burgundy, provided that tranquil opportunity for 5 weeks total between the summers of 2023 and 2025. Inspiration from nature was abundant, and I explored the roads of the countryside daily to breathe in fresh air and take in vast blue skies above me.
Every time I travel to France with my art supplies I channel masters of the past who have once done the same. In my heart, I try to be in the moment, and present to new impressions and surroundings, while remembering that as an artist I have a responsibility for communcation. In this body of work I hope to communicate the beauty that thrives daily in these regions of France - they are pockets of sacred grace.
Bicycle riding has also played an important role in my travels abroad, and has been documented mainly throughout my time in Burgundy. As an athlete back in the states, playing both tennis and soccer regularly, I find movement very important in my daily practice. Making space to bike ride frequently during my travels abroad has brought deep pleasure and inspiration to my work.
Also, these quiet, contemplative landscapes feel like a juxtaposition to my "normal" every day life back in Manhattan, which can feel noisy and unpredictable at times. There is a serenity and sacredness to my time in France, and I want to hold that forever through my artwork.
